Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party 2013

I asked my mom if she would wear a sweatshirt that just said HO.  She said it would be ok as long as we stayed together.  Then it was Ho Ho Ho !!!

We had gloves and scarves but we didn't need them.

My daughter and my mom.  It just doesn't get any better than that!

Ready for Fall

I wanted something to hang in the place of the flag i made for Labor Day and I wanted something I could use both for Halloween and Fall.  Of course I couldn't just make one.  I had to make one for my daughter also.

Eventually I hope to have a hanging for every holiday

I found this free patten on line.  It's called Spookey Hallows and the link is here.  It was fun to put together and quilt.  I quilted the background with the pattern I learned in Paducah from Edita Sitar.

Just an after thought

Little did I know when I was making this that I would soon have a cat just like this one.  She was a stray from work that would meet me every day at my car for lunch.  I finally realized he was a she and was pregnant.  When she missed lunch one day I started looking for her and found her and four new born babies.  Well I couldn't just leave them there she was so tired she let me pick her up and they came home with me that afternoon.  They lived in the tub of my spare bathroom until the kittens were weened.  The kittens have all been adopted & mom had been fixed and she is very happy to live here with Cubs and I.  Her name is Trouble.  She loves to pick on Cubs.  She weighs 7 pounds and Cubs weighs 19.5 pounds.

Mom's New Toy

Mom came up for the weekend.  (I an running a few weeks behind it's been about a month)  We always have fun and manage to do some sewing.  First we usually have to hit the fabric stores and the sewing machine shop.  We went into the sewing machine shop and saw this cute little featherweight.  The price was right and Mom just couldn't leave it there.  She has been talking about one for at least 5 years.  I'm so happy she finally got one.

One of the girls at work had a birthday and I needed a gift.  Mom wanted to see how I make these bags so I made one for one of my friends at work and one for her.
This makes number 11 and 12 bags made this year.  I think its a fun little gift!!

Anyone who knows my Mom knows that hers is the blue one.

Star Top Complete

Finished this top on the 4th!!!  I managed to make this without buying any fabric and no two stars are from the same fabric.    (I did hit my mom's stash last weekend though)

I think I will splurge and buy something fun for the back today.  I'm going to Orlando to see my daughter and I will be able to stop at a fantastic quilt shop on the way.
Better pictures to follow.

Of course I did have some help from Cubs.

Enjoy!!

New Projects

I may have been a slacker with my blog but I have been sewing.  I was inspired by a post I saw a few weeks ago and just had to try it.  I actually started to play with this before I was finished with the military quilt.

So yesterday I made a few more...

And this will be my focus today.  I think I will need 50-60 stars to make a 60x60 quilt.  I will include the link to my inspiration as soon as I can find the link again.

Here are a few of my finishes since my last post.

I wanted to give one of these to the teacher of a class I took about a month ago. I couldn't decide what fabric to choose so I made two and let her pick.  She chose the blue one.
Now I have an extra already and waiting!!!

We had another birthday at work.  I have been giving the girls one of these cosmetic bags so this time I got smart and made up 3 instead of 1.  It doesn't take that much longer to make 3 while your at it.
Now I have 2 extra ready and waiting for the next birthday!!!!
This was something I found on line and it's just folded fabric.  I think it will make cute Christmas ornaments.  I will try to find the link if anyone is interested.

One More Work In Progress

I must have this done soon so I can use it for the 4th!!!

The Ranger's Quilt is Finished!!!

"Quilted For Effect"
I found this fabric at a quilt show about 9 months ago.  It made me think of one of the Doctors I work for.  He was an Army Ranger and I just couldn't pass it up.  I think it will make an excellent surprise for his birthday this year.  I finished it on Memorial Day with 2 weeks to spare.  It will probably take me 2 weeks to get the label on it.

Enjoy!!

Labeled and presented for his birthday June 14th

It Finally Got Here

My new extension table came today. I can't wait to try it out!!!

I love how my 20 year old machine sews and the only thing I needed was a quilting extension table.  I ordered it from sewingmates.com and it will adjust to fit all my machines.  It was easy to fit to my machine.  Now I have to get going with a few projects just waiting to be quilted.

We have another birthday at work.  You can never have too many bags!!
I hope Charlotte likes it.
I posted the link with a tutorial for this bag in my blog from February 21, 2013

I did get my army quilt pinned over the weekend.  As usual Cubs inspected it to make sure every thing was in order.  This will be my first quilting project on my new table.

It's Good to Be Home

I got so much accomplished this weekend.
I had lots of help from Cubs.  He plays it tough but I think he missed me.

I went to a quilt show about 9 months ago and saw fabric that was perfect for someone I work with.   He was an Army Ranger and I found fabric that says US Army and has all kinds of planes, helicopters, tanks and Jeeps.  I just had to get it and I have had it now for months and plan to make him a quilt for his birthday.  His birthday is next month!!!  Of course I don't have a pattern.  I not only laid out the top but I also got the top all pieced together.

My daughter is away at college so I use her king size bed to lay all the pieces out to make sure they look good.  I think this is the hardest part.  Trying to make all the fabrics work well together.  Black, brown, tan and green.

This is the top!!!

Now I need to put the back together and quilt and bind it.
Maybe next weekend??

I also did a few craft projects.  I made Melanoma Awareness Ribbons for all of us to wear at work on Monday and since we will all be wearing orange for sink cancer awareness I made us pens with big orange daises on top to keep us smiling.

These are the backside of the ribbons

These are pens.  This is so cute.

Did I mention that I had lots of help.

Enjoy

Paducah Wrap-UP

I just want to finish posting a few pictures from my Paducah Trip.  I can't believe I have been home for almost a week. We had a fabulous time the classes were full of tips and ideas.  I started a new project in each class.  Hopefully I will be posting the finishes soon!!!

This is Sue Nickels
Sue Nickels taught a class called Whole Cloth Feathers.  I had been looking forward to meeting her for months.  Just watching her quilt is amazing.  She can stitch the background fillers so tiny and her feathers are beautiful.  She passed around all the samples that are in her new book.  Its was nice to be able to touch it and look at the back.

I can't forget to mention

Quilt Man & Bobbin

Quilt man is wearing the red boots and a quilted cape.  He rides a segway and pulls bobbin on a skateboard.  It is quite a sight to see.  Paducah goes all out during Quilt Week.

Tulips, my car and The Ohio River.

Enjoy!
