Easily Distracted

I finished quilting all the blocks on my Steppingstones Quilt!!!  Next step the border.

This is the easily distracted part

I came across the cutest little zippered pouches on a blog this morning and was surprised to find a free tutorial for the project.  (Its so much easier when you have directions and you don't have to figure it out on your own.)  I decided I needed(deserve) a break from quilting....

So I made this one up tonight and I love it.  It has a big opening and is easy to see everything inside.  I cant wait to make a few more.  This is the small one and it comes in 3 sizes.  Check it out the tutorial is on Noodlehead and the link is here.

Maybe I'll just keep telling myself that I have to finish quilting the border before I can make any more.

Still Quilting

Twenty down sixteen to go!!!

I took a little break to make these paper pieced flying geese that go in a circle (I'm half way there).  My quilt guild is having a challenge at the end of the year so I am working on some ideas.   It has to be black and white. I can use a little of one or two other colors but the main colors are black and white.
This should be fun I love black and white!!!

Eight Down Twenty-eight to go

I have started quilting the steppingstones quilt. There are 36 blocks to quilt and I just finished 8!!!  That will leave me 28 more plus the one I have to pull out that I did wrong last week.

I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Treadle On

There was not enough time to quilt this weekend.  I did have lots of fun though.  Saturday I took a free motion quilting class and got to practice some new stitches like pebbles and leaves.  This was fun but wait till you see what the highlight of my weekend was.

After class I headed down to my Mom's in Ft. Lauderdale.  She has been working on a slipcover for her living room sofa that is older than I am.  She has reupholstered or recovered this about 10 times.  She needed me and my electric staple gun.  Project finished!!

The highlight of my weekend was I learned how to sew on a treadle sewing machine.

My mom brought this back from Maine a few summers ago.
This dates back to 1899

I even got to wind the bobbin.  I have never seen a bobbin that looks like that before.  It is long and thin and the casing you put it in is shaped like a bullet.  It was crazy how you use your hand on the wheel of the sewing machine to get the treadle going and then you have to get your feet going to keep the machine stitching and move your hand back to guide your fabric that is being stitched.  You really have to pay attention and make your hands and feet work together.  I did start to catch on after a while.

Enjoy

Weekends Are Too Short

My fabric arrived in the mail from Calico Station!!!

I saw this fabric on line for the back of the houndstooth quilt I've been working on.  When I finally decided that it was exactly what I wanted and figured how much I needed it was too late. There was only two yards left and I needed four.  I looked on other fabric websites with no luck.  I really wanted this fabric.  I ended up going to the manufacturers website and they gave a list of quilt shops that ordered it.  I found it at the first one I called and they mailed it to me.  I guess I'm that crazy quilt lady.

Now I have three completed tops ready to be quilted. No more new projects until I get one of these done.  I am starting with the stepping stones top first.  Its the blue and green batik I started last March.  I can't wait to get to the houndstooth!!!

I know I'm the Crazy Cat Lady!!!
